The ´SINGER SONGWRITER SERIES´ is an evolutionary brand created to identify, develop and spotlight the future of the Australian Music Industry. Providing a platform for artists to perform their original music in front of a live audience, ´SSS` introduces the public to the emerging artists of Australia. ´SINGER SONGWRITER SERIES´ is brought to you by ´REM RECORDS´& TELEVISION SYDNEY.
The Singer Songwriter Series’ showcases unsigned and emerging artists performing their own music in front of a live studio audience.
Singer Songwriter Series (four seasons 2008 - 2011)
Created by audio engineer and promoter Danny Colangelo, who brought the likes of ‘The Prodigy’ and ‘Sasha’ to Australia before they achieved widespread acclaim, The Singer Songwriter Series promotes and supports original Australian artists.
Singer Songwriter Series One winner Kate Costello won a major recording package, which included recording at Said Music Studio with production and direction by Grammy Award Winning Producer Supe, aka Stevie Wright.
The judging panel included legendary Australian producer and 5 time ARIA award winner, Paul McKercher, who was joined by Matt Fell, Sammy Kannis, and Michael Carpenter.
By 2011 and Season 4, the Singer Songwriter Series was being co-produced by REM Records, Television Sydney (TVS) and the University of Western Sydney’s School of Communication Arts.
Alongside these activities, the Series was documented, filmed and edited by UWS Bachelor of Communication/Arts students under the supervision of Lecturer Iqbal Barkat. CEO of Television Sydney, Rachel Bentley, said the Singer Songwriter Series was another example of how TVS and UWS have combined resources to produce original content.
The Series tracked 16 musical artists as they competed for a $50,000 recording deal, which would cover the marketing, management and development of their own music video.

We were giving unsigned emerging artists a real opportunity to perform their original songs to a live audience, with industry experts on hand to mentor them and develop their careers.
